Campbellton (NB) – The 4th edition of the Doctors’ Walk, under the theme Pregnant Women’s Health raised in excess of $20,000. While the $30,000 objective was not reached, the Walk attracted more walkers than ever! It is a year to remember for the Walk: the largest turnout to date, with approximately 375 participants. This year, members of the Restigouche Breastfeeding Promotion Committee were also part of the group of walkers.
Participants received a nice blue or pink t-shirt before the beginning of the 5-km Walk to support the cause. A cause that, as stated Dr. Delbé Robichaud, “is very important, because we unfortunately see too many babies being born with an addiction to drugs or alcohol, hence the slogan: Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby.”
Ms. Jessie Caron, Nurse Manager of Obstetrics-Gynecology, mentioned that the Walk also serves as a reminder that it is just as important for pregnant women to eat well and exercise. The amount raised today will be used to increase awareness and provide education on the importance of pregnant women’s health.
Mr. Jean-Luc Landry, Executive Director of the Foundation said: “We are very proud of the population’s support! We had an amazing day for this event that has become an annual family activity. I am still very satisfied with the result and especially with the great turnout. Plus, we continued our partnership with the Restigouche physicians! We are very grateful for their participation. Once again, thank you to our local doctors”. Finally, he also thanked the major sponsors who made this event possible, namely AV Group Inc. and A.L.P.A. Equipment Ltd, as well as Soup’N Sweets from the Campbellton Regional Hospital, who provided the snack and finally the Campbellton Sobeys store for handing out water during the Walk.
