Golfing for Healthcare: Impressive amount Raised!

Campbellton, NB – On July 8, 2022, the Friends of Healthcare Foundation raised over $82,000 at its 8th Annual Golf Tournament at the Restigouche Golf Club, organized in partnership with MAKKAM Inc. and Restigouche Drive‑Thru. This activity was the first fundraiser from the Friends of Healthcare Foundation since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.

Under a cloudy sky, 213 golfers met up for an enjoyable day of golfing for healthcare. The guest of honour for this 8th edition was none other than the holder of 10 Stanley Cup rings, the Road Runner, Yvan Cournoyer. He took part in a charity dinner with over 50 people on Thursday evening at the Quality Hotel in Campbellton. The next day, he teed off at hole number one to open the Foundation’s 8th Annual Golf Tournament. Mr. Cournoyer had come to the region in 2017 to participate in the Foundation’s golf tournament and did not hesitate to come back and visit our beautiful region of Restigouche again.

According to Jean-Luc Landry, the Foundation’s Executive Director, the event was a huge success once again. “I was delighted by the interest and enthusiasm shown by people during the tournament. In fact, I am thrilled to report that we had the maximum number of participants, and we raised a very impressive amount. It is important to point out that this success would not have been possible without our major sponsor, Molson Coors Canada, our gold sponsors, Restigouche Drive-Thru, SOMMET FM, NHL Legends, McIntyre Refrigeration & Ventilation Co., UNI Entreprises, Dooly’s Campbellton, Port of Belledune and Klomie Furniture, our wine sponsor, Groupe Fari, our silver sponsors as well as the hole sponsors, businesses that gave prizes, participants, donors and of course our precious volunteers. Without these invaluable contributions, we would not have been able to raise such an amount.”

Mr. Allison Metallic, owner of Restigouche Drive‑Thru, and Dr. Hristo Laevski, owner of MAKKAM Inc., are very proud of being associated with the Friends of Healthcare Foundation for the 8th edition of the Annual Golf Tournament. “This golf tournament is a huge event in the region! And it’s for a good cause too!” said Mr. Metallic. “Since I am involved in the Foundation’s golf tournament, I cannot help but be delighted by such a success. All 213 participants can be proud of their contribution to maintaining and improving health care here in Restigouche and of helping raise more than $82,000,” added Dr. Laevski.

Mr. Landry took the opportunity to highlight the presentation of a cheque for $5,000 by Wendy Aubé from the Friends of Healthcare Bingo. This is another generous donation that will help maintain and improve heath care in OUR community.

Finally, the Foundation thanks the public for their endless support and invites them to its 9th Annual Golf Tournament, which will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023
