Golfing for Healthcare Brings in Big Results for Restigouche

Campbellton, New Brunswick – On July 5, the Friends of Healthcare Foundation raised over $88,000 during its 7th Annual Golf Tournament held at the Restigouche Golf Club, organized in partnership with Plaza Chevrolet Buick GMC, MKAKM Inc. and Restigouche Drive-Thru. This amount represents the best result for the annual event so far!

Despite the intense heat, 215 golfers came together for an enjoyable day of golfing for healthcare. At the very last minute, the guest of honour, Mr. Doug Gilmour, was unable to attend the Golf activities. However, with great joy, we welcomed Mr. Kirk Muller, a former Canadiens player, presently Assistant Coach for the Montreal Canadiens and Stanley Cup ring holder, to our beautiful region that he himself described as very welcoming and warm. Mr. Kirk Muller accepted without hesitation, in a short period of time, to participate in our fundraising activities related to the golf tournament and to support our cause. He took the opportunity to visit the Campbellton Regional Hospital. He was able to see the various equipment purchases made possible thanks to the financial contribution of the Friends of Healthcare Foundation. He was also able to share the importance of the cause with over 65 donors at the benefit supper on the Thursday evening and throughout the day of golf. Mr. Muller was a real gentleman and was very generous with his presence throughout the day.

According to Jean-Luc Landry, Executive Director of the Foundation, the event was a huge success. “I was thrilled by the interest and enthusiasm shown by the participants during the tournament. I am happy to report that the event was held again at full capacity! It is important to mention that such success was made possible thanks to our Major Sponsor, Molson Coors Canada, Gold sponsors, Plaza Chevrolet Buick GMC, Restigouche Drive-Thru, CIMS FM, McIntyre Refrigeration & Ventilation Co. Ltd. (who have outdone themselves by offering prizes close to $ 8000 for this event), NHL Legends, UNI Business, as well as our Silver sponsors, our hole sponsors, the business people who donated prizes, all the participants, our donors and, of course, our precious volunteers. Without their invaluable contributions, it would have been impossible to raise such an amount.”

Mr. Jean-Jacques Normand, owner of Plaza Chevrolet Buick GMC, Mr. Allison Metallic, owner of Restigouche Drive-Thru, and Dr. Hristo Laevski, co-owner of MKAKM Inc. were very proud to be associated with the Friends of Healthcare Foundation for the 7th edition of the golfing event. “This golf tournament is an event not to be missed in the region! Plus, it’s all for a worthy and charitable cause!”, said Mr. Normand. “Being involved with the Foundation’s Golf Tournament, I cannot help but feel delighted by such success,” stated Mr. Metallic. Dr. Laevski adds, “This is a new record since our debut in 2013. All 215 participants can be proud to have contributed to the maintenance and improvement of healthcare services here in Restigouche!”

Mr. Landry took the opportunity to take part in the presentation of a $10,000 cheque from the Friends of Healthcare Bingo by Mr. René Beaudet and Mr. Biff Homiak. This generous donation will certainly contribute to maintain and improve healthcare services offered in OUR community.

Finally, the Foundation thanks the public for their ongoing support and invites everyone to take part in the organization’s eighth annual charity golf tournament, scheduled for Friday, July 3, 2020.
