$68,000 for the Fight AGAINST CANCER in the Restigouche!

Campbellton (NB) – The 5th edition of the Doctors’ Walk, under the theme Fight against CANCER raised in excess of $68,000.  The cumulative objective of $65,000 has been surpassed thanks to the activity “Chante la Vie” which included a concert in May under the direction of Ms. Anne Cormier and the president of the organizing committee, Mr. Gaëtan Cormier; that event had raised the amount of $47,458.65 for the cause.

Approximately 350 participants received a nice lavender (colour representing all types of cancers) t-shirt before beginning the 5-km course in support of this cause. Dr. Youla stated: “Patients must often travel outside the region for treatments and cancer causes anxiety in many people. Early diagnosis is imperative and we must take care of our population in the Restigouche.”

Ms. Krista Rioux, Diagnostic Imaging Manager, emphasized that one of the Walk’s objectives was to acquire state-of-the art medical equipment for our health facilities in the Restigouche, to be used not only for cancer treatment but also to promote early and accurate diagnosis. The funds collected during this event will actually be used to purchase a specimen radiology system for the Campbellton Regional Hospital Diagnostic Imaging Department.

“We are very proud of the support shown by the population” declared Mr. Jean-Luc Landry, Executive Director of the Friends of Healthcare Foundation. “We had a beautiful day for this event, which seems to have become an annual family activity. I am very satisfied with the results and particularly with the generous contribution from the “Chante la Vie” activity that gave our results a nice boost. Furthermore, we have continued our partnership with the Restigouche physicians! We are grateful for their participation and thank them for their support.”

Finally, Mr. Landry also thanked all the volunteers, participants and donors who supported the Walk. He also thanked the major sponsors who made this event possible, namely AV Group Inc. and A.L.P.A. Equipment Ltd, as well as Soup’N Sweets from the Campbellton Regional Hospital, who provided the snack, the Campbellton Sobeys store for handing out water bottles during the Walk, the Campbellton Richelieu Club for providing the inflatable arch, LeBlanc Rentals for the generator, 95 CKNB, CIMS FM and finally members of the RCMP who provided security. Let’s Walk again next year!
