Over $35,000 for Hearts in the Restigouche!

Campbellton (NB) – The 6th edition of the Doctors’ Walk, under the theme Our Health at Heart raised in excess of $35,000. The initial objective of $30,000 was surpassed. This amount will be used toward the purchase of a stress test unit for the Electrodiagnostic Department of the Campbellton Regional Hospital.

Approximately 350 participants received a bright red t-shirt before beginning the 5-km course in support of this cause. “This is a cause that affects people of all ages here in the Restigouche,” stated Dr. Whalen. He also emphasized that one of the objectives of the Walk was to acquire state-of-the-art medical equipment for our health facilities in the Restigouche. The new stress test unit will be replacing an obsolete unit. Dr. Whalen also reminded people that physical activity and a healthy lifestyle are the best ways to protect against cardiovascular diseases.

“We are very proud of the support shown by the population,” declared Jean-Luc Landry, Executive Director of the Friends of Healthcare Foundation. “We had a wonderful day for this event, which has become an annual family activity. I am very satisfied with the results. Furthermore, we have continued our partnership with the Restigouche physicians, and for that we are very grateful.”

Finally, Mr. Landry also thanked all the volunteers, participants and donors who supported the Walk. He would like to thank the sponsors who made this event possible, namely A.L.P.A. Equipment Ltd, AV Group Inc., Medavie Blue Cross as well as Soup’N Sweets (Campbellton Regional Hospital) for providing snacks, the Campbellton Sobeys store for handing out water bottles during the Walk, the Campbellton Richelieu Club for providing the inflatable arch, 95 CKNB, CIMS-FM and finally members of the RCMP who provided security. Let’s Walk again next year!
